Minerals
by author Roy Kiss

While minerals comprise only about six percent of our total body weight, their absence or imbalance can mean the difference between health and wellness.

The Body’s Motherlode

Our bodies rely on minerals to conduct and generate billions of tiny electrical impulses. Without these impulses, not a single muscle would be able to function. Minerals support the health of every organ in the body, including the heart, brain, and skin, as well as our bones, immune system, and nervous system. Trace minerals play a vital role in controlling blood pressure, muscle function, wound healing, and much more. Keeping the level of minerals in balance in every tissue, fluid, cell, and organ in the human body may be the key to maintaining good health.

Minerals are the basic constituents of good health. According to Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling, “You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.” Research shows that natural minerals and trace minerals act as catalysts for other nutrients, vitamins, hormones, and neurological functions; vitamins, sport supplements, and herbal formulas work far more effectively when taken with mineral supplementation.

Absorption is Key

Organic plant-source ionic minerals are the most efficient way to get your minerals, as they are highly concentrated and in a balance similar to that found in the human body. Easily assimilated through cell membranes, the body can absorb 98 percent of them.

Ionic minerals come from ancient vegetation formed thousands of years ago on the Utah-Nevada border in the US. When these mineral-rich deposits were formed, the earth was pollution free, the oxygen content of the air was much higher, and the soil was rich with nutrients.

Many Canadians suffer major and minor illnesses as a result of mineral deficiencies. Even people who think they are healthy soon find improvement in their energy, mental clarity, aches and pains, and general well-being after taking ionic minerals.

An increasing number of diseases today may be attributable to a deficiency of minerals in our diet.
Zinc and Selenium
Along with a diet rich in whole foods, nutritional supplements play an important role in preventing and treating all types of cancer. And although we have seen the value of supplementing with just zinc or selenium, mounting evidence confirms that a combination of antioxidants will provide greater protection against cancer than any single nutritional antioxidant.
Navigating the Supplement Maze
Your first trip to the local natural health store's supplements aisle can be overwhelming. The myriad of nutrient and herbal helpers that populate the shelves can make it difficult to navigate your way to just the right supplements for your own good health.
Purity Life
Since 1984, when David and Elyse Chapman first opened the doors of Purity Life, the small distribution company has grown into Canada's leading supplier of natural health products.
Platinum Naturals
Three may seem a small number to some. To David Khang, founder and president of Platinum Naturals, three is a prime number; it represents the significant ways in which his company differs from others in the natural products industry.
Mineral Ascorbates
Burgeoning rates of geriatric conditions such as osteoporosis have sparked an interest in mineral supplements and their absorption rates. But which mineral forms are best, and how do we get the most bang for our buck from mineral supplements?
Wheat Germ
To protect our health we often try to avoid germs-but wheat germ is one germ we can all embrace! Its name originating from the word germinate, the wheat germ is the embryonic centre of the wheat grain, containing enzymes and nutrients required to start a new plant.
