PMS
A joke recently doing the email rounds describes PMS as shorthand for "preposterous mood swings and "punish my spouse. The truth is that women who experience the cyclical symptoms of PMS aren't laughing; but they can break the cycle.
Problem Periods
During lunch break my coworker, Mary, was obviously feeling unwell. When I asked her what the matter was, she told me she was having problems with her periods; they seemed heavier and more frequent than they had been.

Negligence is the word I can think of that best summarizes the way conventional medicine approaches premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Here we have a condition that is simply a matter of hormone imbalance and nutritional deficiencies.
The Hormone Balance
Do you dread the two weeks just before your period? Many women do. Hormonal imbalance is the culprit. There may be an overproduction of estrogen, too little progesterone or too much prolactin (a hormone released by the pituitary gland, responsible for stimulating breast milk production).
Is it Really PMS?
Ninety per cent of women in the reproductive age group experience premenstrual symptoms of some sort. Half of these women experience only mild premenstrual symptoms. Most of the other half suffer from symptoms serious enough to interfere significantly with their lives.
