Be Sneeze-free

Home is where the sneezes are--especially during the winter months. Most of us have our homes sealed tight against Jack Frost's icy touch, but that may not be the best thing. A sealed home traps allergens and stale air inside, making your allergies more prevalent.

Home is where the sneezes are--especially during the winter months. Most of us have our homes sealed tight against Jack Frost's icy touch, but that may not be the best thing. A sealed home traps allergens and stale air inside, making your allergies more prevalent. Here are tips to make your home as allergy free as possible:

  • Wash the curtains and bedding to cut down on dust and kill dust mites.

  • Bathe your pets (carefully) and wash their blankets in hot water. Cat or dog dander and hair can cause allergic reactions.

  • Change furnace air filtres regularly to cut down on airborne dust.

  • Damp-mop floors and dust furniture and knick-knacks regularly.

  • Avoid fumes from painting and cleaning products.

  • Don't over-humidify. Too much humidity promotes the growth of mould.

  • Vacuum frequently and be sure to change the bags or filtres regularly.
