Osteoporosis Workshop
Saturday, May 10th 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Presented by: Dr Kelly Yhap, BCom, ND & Katie McCann, RHN, RNCP Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone density and deterioration of bone tissue leading to increased bone fragility and risk of fracture (broken bones). Current statistics show that 1.4 million Canadians suffer from osteoporosis. In fact, one in four women over the age of 50 has osteoporosis. At least one in eight men over 50 also has the disease. Osteoporosis is often known as "the silent thief" because bone loss occurs without symptoms. However, the disease can strike at any age. Osteoporosis is sometimes confused with osteoarthritis, because the names are similar. Osteoporosis is a bone disease; osteoarthritis is a disease of the joints and surrounding tissue. . During this fact-filled workshop, Dr. Yhap will provide you with insight into the causes of osteoporosis, the risk factors involved and the latest information on available treatment alternatives. Nutritionist, Katie McCann will address the dietary factors that affect your bone health, how the various systems of the body interact to create optimum and vibrant health and will review the basics of digestions and absorption. Admission is $89 and includes a FREE BONE DENSITY TEST Seating is limited. Please call EnerChanges™ at (604) 681-8380 to reserve your seat. “KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, BUT ONLY IF YOU USE IT.”

Tonight on Knowledge Network
FROM GRIEF TO ACTION Monday, May 19 at 10 pm on Knowledge Network Repeats Friday, May 30 at 11 pm In this moving documentary, viewers follow the lives of four middle class Vancouver families. The parents are intelligent, loving, resourceful, and they share an unexpected tribulation – their children are addicted to heroin. As they deal with the trauma of trying to keep their addicted children alive and in treatment, the parents join together, founding a group called From Grief to Action. Knowing that the relapse rates for opiate-dependent users is 80 percent, the families live in hope – for their own children, and for others. This award-winning documentary shatters the stereotype that drug addicts come from backgrounds of poverty and that children from loving, comfortable homes are immune. International Conference on Integrative, Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Mental Health
Mental health issues are on the rise in Canada, according to psychiatrist Dr. Jean Boodhoo, chairman of the upcoming ICAM conference in Toronto, May 23 to 25. The conference is targeted towards family physicians, health care practitioners and individuals with a keen interest in alternative medicine or mental health solutions. The objective is that they will be made aware of current alternative interventions for mental health patients, future trends in the field and to raise awareness of concerns of legal and ethical issues in this field of practice.
