A 7 year old Ontario boy wants to receive a million birthday cards (or hopefully more) by his 8th birthday on May 30th.

Address for the cards:

Shane
c/c KISS FM
2001 Thurston Drive
Ottawa, Ontario
K1G 6C9

You can read more about Shane by either visiting the KISS FM website or CJOH website (also many have left greetings to him in MySpace.com).

Please ask everyone you know to send him a card. It's amazing how such a small and inexpensive act of kindness can brighten someone elses day. (Shane likes frogs, motorcycles, video games but most of all....lego.)

I forgot to mention that when you visit the CJOH website, type Shane Bernier into the 'search' area and you will see more info.

Also, if you type his name into other search engines ('Shane Bernier and birthday cards'--or something to that effect), you can see more articles, pictures and even video footage of him being interviewed from his hospital bed and actually see him opening cards and the smile that comes to his face each time he does this, which is very moving.

He's even CUTER on video than in pictures and has the cutest smile on the planet! :)

I made a typo on my last post. I said c/c of KISS FM, instead of c/o KISS FM. I wish there was an edit button, so we can go back and correct spelling if need be.

I've been doing my best to spread the word about Shane (including contacting tv and radio stations) but can only do so much by myself. Please spread the word in your area and to everyone you know. Thanks again.

I just read in one of the articles that Shane prefers the birthday cards to be written in French. However if they're in English, his mother will read them to him. (All are appreciated though.)

He can speak English (I've seen him on video) but maybe he's just not able to read it, as French seems to be his first language.

I also read that his chemo continues until the end of June/07. After that, he should be in permanent remission.

If you go to the A-Channel News website and click on Shane Bernier and 'video' you can watch him opening birthday cards from his hospital bed at CHEO.

A-Channel News is a local TV station in Ottawa.

If you're e-mailing tv or radio stations or websites, the link for Shane's info is:

1053kissfm.com

I just found out that Googling KISS FM alone won't take you to the page if you're in the U. S. (and I assume overseas) because there are MANY radio stations around the world with the SAME letters "KISS"---- so you need to provide the above link for them to arrive at the page.

You can see a recent video clip of Shane in hospital opening some cards by visiting:

achannel.ca/ottawa

Type Shane Bernier into "search" and then click on "video." The sounds fades in and out at the start but picks up after that.

If you visit www.myspace.com/cardsforshane you can read the many e-greetings people have sent to him and even add one of your own.

He's got a lot of fans out there.

Another web link to view some of Shane's e-cards is:

myspace.com/cards4shane

Note: This is not the same as the link in my previous post. This one is different with more cards and pictures to see.

If you go to scrapbookflair.com they are doing a challenge there to get people to make more cards!!! It's not really a challenge because shane is the winner but it is just a way to get as many cards as possible!!! (You can find the cards under challenges then the challenge that has shane's picture on it).

There is a Shane fan club that you can join (free of charge) at:

groups.myspace.com/pinklink49

You can also see more photos of Shane there too.

MySpace is FREE to join by the way and it's not just for teens either.

Note: I was just at the above link and it's temporarily out of order (has nothing to do with the link itself however---the MySpace people are fixing some minor problem in their data base). If this link doesn't work at first, it will soon.

The other link, regarding Shane's fan club, doesn't seem to be working.

However you can still arrive at the correct site by typing:

groups.myspace.com into Google.

After you've done that, click on "non-profit and philanthropic."

Then click on "search groups." Then type in Shane Bernier for the name and Canada for the location.

This will take you to the fan club, called "Shane's Record Breaker."

There is a section there called view group photos. These are a series of picture of Shane. However you can only view them if you are a member of MySpace. (As previously stated, MySpace is FREE to join.)

There's a new article on Shane in today's issue (April 1) of the Ottawa Sun and Toronto Sun, which can be freely accessed from their websites.

It said that he will be undergoing radiation on his birthday (May 30th) and that the chemo will continue until June/08, so these cards are a real boost to his morale in the meantime.

Also, there is a hospital programe at CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) called "chemo angels" where penpals write to him each week.

So when he comes home from treatments and finds letters in the mail, it's a big thrill and keeps up his spirits.

In other words, I'm sure he would welcome your letters also (in addition to cards). If you could write them in French, that would be a bonus.

Thanks to all.

There's an article about Shane in the Ottawa Citizen today (April 12 / 07). You can read it online at the Ottawa Citizen website.

It says that Guiness won't be including his birthday cards because they have retired the category. (Another boy with brain cancer, who has since died, is still receiving cards to this day.)

To date, Shane has received 254, 400 cards from 36 countries.

One of Shane's favourite cards is 4ft x 8 ft and he especially likes it because of it's size.

It was just announced on our local Ottawa news today (Friday, April 27/ 07) that Shane's official card count is 400,000 which has more than doubled from the last count of just two weeks ago.

Hopefully he will reach his goal of 3 million or more cards by his 8th birthday, on May 30th.

The latest celebrity to send him a card is Judge Judy, as well as some hockey player (think his first name is Patrick something).
