Hi everyone,

I'm so sorry to have been away for so long. Like Toni, I've been busy with all my appointments. I'm struggling with the same problem...too much travel time. I'm going to the same naturopathic doctor at the West Vancouver Wellness Centre, which is, like Toni, 45 minutes to an hour away. My gym is about 45 minutes away, which is making it extremely difficult to get to on a regular basis. It is nowhere near my school, either, which I have to go to four days a week. It's quite a struggle, and that's before my trainer, Dean, has me running around like a maniac.

The gym is the new element this month, and I'm very intimidated. I never liked PE in high school, and this is bringing back all kinds of awful memories. However, the people at the facility, Twist Conditioning, are absolutely wonderful. So I can't complain. Actually, I can. They need to be closer to ME.

The workout is very intense. They subscribe to the "functional fitness" model. The merits of this type of workout are obvious. The only problem is that I'm not even close to being competent. The workout that Dean has designed for me should ideally take 90 minutes for two run-throughs. I could barely get through one circuit in the 90 minutes, and I am exhausted, sweaty, and exhausted again (I'm really tired!).

Dr. Sciortino at the West Vancouver Wellness Centre (www.healthydoc.com) gave me a handy little bottle of oxygen to help boost my energy level and spirits. I'm so out of shape that I can hardly recognize the results. I'm sure it's working, though.

Well, I'd better get back to it. In addition to the daily workouts, we're training for the annual Vancouver Sun Run, which happens in April. I'm completing my last semester at school and preparing for our graduation portfolio show. I'm also still working part-time for alive magazine. Wow, that sounds like a lot, and it is.

Bye for now.

So not only is your life crazy busy but you are also training for the Sun Run? That is a 20 km marathon, correct?

Good for you! I wish I had the gumption to get going.

Reader,

Yes, my life is crazy...but not so crazy that I'd agree to a 20km marathon. I hadn't checked on the length of the run before I agreed to participate. I'm walking it, anyhow. Still, it is a 10km route (I had to check just to be sure) through scenic Vancouver, through Stanley Park, and along English Bay. There will be bands playing along the route for entertainment or distraction from the pain.

For more information, check out the Sun Run website: http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/sunrun/racedetails/story.html?id={7C32763A-753B-46EF-A12A-1837750D7535}

Bye for now.
