|

Hi, my wife and I have used aveda for years without problem. Less than a year ago we bought the huge 500mL bottles of "botanical kinetics" hydrating lotion and purifying creme cleanser. I didn't really use them regularly and I travel often for business but did develop some degree of puffy eyes and sinus pressure initially. After some time of trying to figure out what I was seamingly allergic too, wee had the house cleaned thoroughly, changed everything to do with our bed (new pillows, stop using down duvet, etc....) and tried to really reduce any possible allergens. Anyway, it didn't seem to help but when I went away for a few days on business I notice relieve by the next morning. hmmmmm... When I returned home and used our bathroom it was like I had an epiphany as I stared at the two big bottles of aveda next to sink on the right. So, the scientist in me wanted to be sure. We washed everything again and stopped using the cream and voila... better. But to be sure, I asked my wife to try using the cream one day over the next week and we'll see what happens... confirmed. I was shocked it would be aveda but they obviously are using something new in that product compared to their others... or so I thought.
Case 2 (shorter story, same testing, same outcome): Wife buys "dry remedy" moisturizing shampoo and conditioner while I'm away on business. I return home and wake up the next morning with very slightly puffy eyes! WTF? I immidiately ask "Ok, what's new?" I see the little blue bottles next to our tub... she said that she just bought it but hadn't used it yet (but they did in the salon). Anyway, she silently used it last night and today I'm in the * with swollen eyes and a mild headache (I was pissed but proud of her little blind study, unfortunately with me as the guinea pig).
So, what the heck is aveda using in these new products that are different than others. I have used a lot of their products... pretty much every shampoo they have come out with except this "dry remedy." and nearly every hair gel, paste, foaming pump whatever it is stuff, and on and on.
Any one else with similar allergies to those products or who may know what it could be?
Offenders:
1. AVEDA "Botanical Kinetics" hydrating lotion and purifying creme cleanser
2. AVEDA "dry remedy" moisturizing shampoo and conditioner
Thanks,
JB |

| I too had an allergic reaction to something in the Aveda lotion. Except that my entire face was red and itchy for 3 days after one use. The Aveda store I bought it from looked at me like I was an alien when I tried to return it and they told me it couldnt have been the lotion because it is hypo allergenic. I also did the same testing a second time with the same results. Anyone know what I could be allergic too? |

| i have been developing styes and puffy eyes since i've switched to aveda products. i am a stylist and have never had this problem with any other product line besides aveda. i can't tell if it's the smell or the actual product but it's been going on for quite some time. what makes it worse is that i work at an aveda salon! |

| I was just recommended by someone at an Aveda salon to use Outer Peace Skin Care products and the Scalp Remedy shampoo and conditioner. I got an acute hive out of using these products with my eyes, head, neck, and chests swellen, red, and itchy with burning sensations. My thyroid also became swollen. This lasted for a week. It disturbed my sleep. This is similiar to a hayfever but it is not the season for it now. My skin also looked severely burn even after it is not swellen anymore. I came across studies about how the floride in a steamy hot shower can have chemical reactions to some products. |

| I use aveda shampure line, have for years, as well as various aveda hair styling products. I recently used two different facial cleansers, no reaction. Then I used the sensitive skin line moisturizer (you would think something for sensitive skin would be safe!) and my arms broke out in hives, continued to break out for days, even after ceasing use of the product, showering with dr. bronners and applying calamine lotion. The calamine helps the itching, but doesnt stop the breakouts and hives. It does seem to flare up after showers and when I sweat a lot. Gold Bond medicated powder has worked really well, especially on the insides of my elbows at the joints, in reducing redness, hives, and itching. Kind of a messy solution. I am sure I should have taken benedryl right away, but now I know. What is wierd is that I do not have sensitive skin (have used all types of lotions/ products and never had a reaction) and only used this line of lotion because it was low in fragrance. The sensitive skin facial cleanser that goes with it caused no reaction. |

i have spent thousands on products for my entire this past year thinking i was doing a great organic thing for my family...my first suspicion was when aveda pulled their sensitive skin entire line without a replacement and gt me doing some looking and discover numerous complaints about hives...redness..itchinin...puffiness...etc the outer peace line does not work at all for mild acne...what a joke for my teens
my last $250 hair appt was totally toxic...i got dizzy...was sweating...ears ringing and felt horrible..i dashed home and kept rinsing out the products and my entire body was red and i felt poisened i was my curly hair actually had gone even curlier my girls were like mom wy is your hair so curly?? weird
i am so mad as i thought switching everything to aveda was a great thing but now we have tons of products around that we cannoit use
we have switched to a spendy but worth ervy penny line called Eminence..amazing!
i suppose be cautious when you hear that estee lauder owns a company
my aveda salon said they did notnknow why aveda pulled sensitive skin what liars |

I work at an Aveda store in Canada, Just to let some of you know the "All Sensitive" line has been discontinued due to the following reasons:
1) Many Aveda products which contain parebens are being discontinued/re-formulated
2) in The United Stated as much as 25% of the "all sensitive" users have had an adverse reaction to one of the ingredients.
As far as I know, The line will be re-formulated or possibly a new one for Sensitive Skin will be introduced.
As far as Hypo-Allergenic is concerned. We usually, don't tell people they are hypo-allergenic only because of the plant and flower extracts, and also the fact that organic lavender is and ingredient that is most commonly used in many Aveda products. Also, FYI- most of the Botanical Kinetics products have Lavender and Chamomile in them and that again might be one of the ingredients you may be allergic to.
Hope this helps. :) |

i got aveda the first time for better winter skin care (i thought). after using it just one time, i woke up to little red bumps alllll around my mouth area and some around my eye area. then gradually it creeped down my neck too. i have NEVER reacted negatively to any skincare products, and i've tried at least 10 brands over my life. i also grew up with perfect skin so i am freaking out. the store also claims they dont do returns just store credit which i'l have $150 worth but why in the world would i ever go back?
how long did it take you guys to get better? i'm putting cortizone all over my face and don't know what else to do. my whole face and neck is red and itchy. so stressed. |

| I used the all sensitive moisturizer ONE time and 3 days later still have a very swollen neck and eyes and a totally red neck and chest and red pimples everywhere else. I went to my dermatologist and had to get a shot and buy expensive drugs to combat this horrible condition. |

| aha! I can't believe it! My husband gave me some botanical kinetics moisturizer for Christmas. I had run out of the all-sensitive moisturizer. after one application i noticed that my skin was a little bit rough but boy did it smell great.! my husband used some as well and he developed some acne after one day and he's never had acne in his life. I used the moisterizer for several days but noticed that my skin was feeling rough so i stopped using it for a few days. At the same time i developed what i though was a cold and paid no attention to it. A few days after not using the product my skin feels a little smoother and my cold has disapeared. I start using the product again because the cold weather has dried out my skin. After three days of use I start what i think is a sinus infection. i clean out my humidifiers thoroughly convinced that they are the culprit. a few days pass and i wake up with itchy watery eyes, itchy throat and a nose that will not stop running and itching. I've been like this for two solid days and now realize that I'm severely allergic to something in botanical kinetics. About ten years ago I had an allergic reaction to their tourmaline product. |

| I could not figure out what had caused my face to swell and turn red. My eyes were so itchy and they burned. I saw the dermatologist 3 times (for the first time ever). I finally realized it was the Aveda Moisturizer causing me such problems. |
