Hi everyone,
I'm new here but have been reading the magazine for a couple years now. I personally became interested in alternative medicine and a holistic approach to health when I had mono and felt terrible. When doctors told me that I basically had to wait it out, I couldn't believe that for such a highly acclaimed science that sees itself as having achieved so much, it couldn't do anything for a virus. When I sought out alternative therapies, I was better within a week. I have since been sick several other times and alternative medicine has always helped me out. Plus, I haven't had a cold in over 3 years...even when other people around me are sick!
I am really interested in knowing what others' motivations were/are to seeking alternative medicine instead of conventional. I also think that part of it has to do with the way I am treated. Some doctors are amazing but a lot have a very cold attitude and believe their only goal is to diagnose and forget that there is a human being behind the illness. Alternative health practitioners seem (at least in my experience) to understand that and they are much more warm and welcoming and want to work with you instead of them just telling you what to do. They are also much more receptive to your input. |
