Hi All!
I have a question. I was just reading a wonderful book Called Allergies: Diseases in Disguise by Carolee Bateson-Koch. She was talking about reducing the exposure to electro-magnet fields, and lists some ways to do that. Being VERY EMS (electro-magnetic sensitive), I was familiar with most of the things on the list. But there was a new one to me. Quote: "Avoid eyeglass lenses that contain uranium or thorium to enhance optical quality. Studies show these eyeglasses emit one millirad per hour." (Page 234)
Because I have been having a lot of trouble with my eyes (optic neuritis that never fully clears up, pain, blurring vision), I sat up and took notice. Yes, I DID feel better when I would leave my glasses off. But going completely without glasses is not an option for me. I would like to find out more about these radioactive lenses, is uranium and thorium used in both glass and plastic lenses, is it only in High Index lenses, is it in the anti-glare coating, WHAT???? I need to know, so I am informed when buying my next pair of glasses. A trip to the optometrists office did not prove fruitful. The opticians don't know, and a call to the lab was useless, the lab wouldn't give out that information!!!!!!
I did a brief search on the internet, but because I am EMS, I have to severely restrict my time on the computer. Would anybody know the answer to this question? Any info would be soooo appreciated. |
