This week, were cutting back on stress by catching up on our sleep. So, how do we prepare to hit the hay?
This week for December’s 12 Months of Wellness, we’re making sure that stress doesn’t sap away our holiday spirit by catching those 40, 60, or 80 winks—or however many winks that we need to not be groggy the next day.
There are plenty of ways for a person to make sure that they have good sleep hygiene, but here are some of the tried and true techniques that the staff here at alive use to make sure that their holiday spirit is intact and in place.
Jennifer Procyshyn, Account Manager: “I go to bed at the same time every night. I find that, even on weekends when that time approaches, I am tired. I also wake up at the same time every day.
“Napping doesn’t seem to affect my sleep, unless I’ve napped too long.”
Leah Payne, Editor: “I wake up very early on weekdays (as in, 5 am-early!), and to be honest, I should be getting to bed earlier than I am—oops! But I do always take a few moments to read before bed, which relaxes me so I can fall asleep more easily. New Year’s resolution: go to bed earlier!”
Colleen Grant, Editor: “I always read before bed. Right now, I’m working my way through the A Song of Ice and Fire series, which has kept me entertained (and well rested) for months now.
If I’m having a particularly sleepless week, I go to a restorative yoga class. This never fails to put me in a snoozing mood, and sometimes works too well. I just want to lie in Shavasana forever …”
