Fruit Brulé au Chocolat

    This mock brulé is quick to prepare and tastes exquisitely, strongly chocolate flavoured. If you prefer a sweeter dessert, mix in some maple syrup or add an extra 1/2 cup (125 mL) of dates.

    1 cup (250 mL) dates
    14 oz (397 g) firm silken tofu
    1/3 cup (80 mL) cocoa powder
    1/4 cup (60 mL) coconut milk
    2 tsp (10 mL) cinnamon
    4 cups (1 L) chopped fruit of choice

    Preheat oven to 450 F (230 C).

    Soak dates in boiling water for about 10 minutes or in water overnight.

    Blend dates, tofu, cocoa powder, coconut milk, and cinnamon. Place fruit in oiled 8 x 8 in (2 L) pan and cover with chocolate mixture. Bake for about 10 minutes or until browned. Let set overnight in refrigerator.

    Serves 8.

    Each serving contains:
    134 calories; 5 g protein; 3 g total fat (2 g sat. fat, 0 g trans fat); 26 g carbohydrates; 4 g fibre; 34 mg sodium
