Nutritional Consultants Change Lives

Interest in nutrition has never been higher or more relevant than it is today, and with good reason. Epidemic rates of obesity, type-2 diabetes, and heart disease are just a few of the conditions motivating many to seek advice about preventing and treating these modern-day disorders.

Helping Clients Heal Themselves

Elly Vissers, one of the first graduates of the alive Academy of Natural Health’s Nutritional Consulting Diploma program, became a nutritional consultant so that she could be of service to those in need of sound advice. Vissers turned to natural health and nutrition because of personal health challenges. She calls the journey to her studies with the alive Academy a “synchronistic” one that led her to heal herself and gain the knowledge to heal others.

“I’m growing as my client-base grows,” says Vissers, who has set up a thriving practice in Mississauga, Ontario, after two years of studies. “The course gave me a lot of information about setting up a practice and also provided guidelines about how to deal with clients.”

One of Vissers’ current clients, who suffered with irritable bowel syndrome for 15 years before seeking nutritional advice, is making great strides in recovering her health. Vissers helped this client understand how and why her body reacts to lifestyle and food choices. She says her client’s eyes lit up when she realized that with the informational tools Visser has provided she can now heal herself.

Understanding the Science Behind Nutrition

Vissers says she was drawn to the alive Academy of Natural Health’s Nutritional Consulting diploma course because it offers studies of relevant sciences. “The Environmental Sciences course helped me understand how being a nutritional consultant connects with the rest of the world,” she says. The Anatomy and Physiology course helped her understand how the body works; now she can help her clients understand how their choices affect their bodies. Applied Nutrition was another favourite course of Vissers because it “opened up my way of thinking,” she says.

Students of the Nutritional Consulting Diploma program are required to complete seven certificate courses: Applied Nutrition; Anatomy & Physiology; Biology; General, Organic, & Biochemistry; Environmental Science; and Sports Nutrition, and Nutritional Consulting. Once courses are successfully completed, graduates are eligible for accreditation from the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants (IONC) to practice as Registered Nutritional Consultant Practitioners (RNCP).

A Passion for Nutrition

Vissers says that all people can benefit from taking the Applied Nutrition course. She recommends the Nutritional Consulting diploma for anyone who has an interest in nutrition and a passion for learning. Her own passion is apparent in her dedication to her clients and to continued learning about health and nutrition. “You really do change lives,” she says.
