#2013alive: Are You Trying Something New?

Share

For month 3, week 4 of our 12 Months of Wellness, we’re trying a new sport or fitness class. Are you?

It’s the beginning of our fourth week in the third month of our 12 Months of Wellness series. This week, we try something new. Our alive team has been trying new ways of keeping active. Here’s what they had to say.

Sandi, Senior Editor, says: “Earlier this year, we bought our son some snowshoes for his birthday. And guess what? Not only has he been getting tons of use out of them along with his friends. (They’ve been hiking the snowy trails and even hiking up the mountain with their snowboards on their backs so they can enjoy the ride down—without the lift ticket costs!) But he’s also got my husband and I hooked. We’ve been up the local mountains several times in recent weeks to enjoy a winter wonderland workout—while the rest of our fellow Vancouverites enjoy another grey, rain-soaked day below.”

Bronwyn, Marketing and Digital Communications Specialist, says: “I have recently found a great workout, for not just me, but my pup too. We have started doing agility classes. It gets her brain and body moving, and helps keep me moving too. Her being a fast runner definitely helps keep my speed up, as she is still young and easily distracted, I have to stay close when she is off-leash. It’s a great time, and lots of fun in the new spring weather we’ve just gotten!”

Pauline, Account Manager, says: “I so wanted to try Bikram Yoga and I finally did it!! It was one of the best workouts that I have ever had, while standing in the same spot. The stretching was amazing and even though it was so HOT in the room, I felt so great once it was done. If you are looking for a mind break, as well as a great workout, I would highly recommend this one. It only takes an hour and a half out of your day and makes you feel amazing afterwards.”

Lina, Graphic Designer, says: “I think joining the local community centre is the way to go for me personally, as I am trying to learn new workouts to get active. I think that probably all the things I will earn there will be new to me and will somehow help get me back on track workout wise. Don’t know how to use the elliptical but will learn it!”

Bryce, Editorial Assistant, says: “It may not be the most vigorous activity, but lately I’ve been trying to break up my work day with a bit of juggling. For me, it’s the perfect counterpart to sitting hunched over a keyboard. I’m not very good at it, so aside from getting me to stand up straight and moving my arms, I usually have to do a couple of quick sprints to chase after my juggling balls, and several deep squats to pick them up off the floor.”

How are you trying something new?
