Celebrate Sports Day in Canada

Share

September 29 is Sports Day in Canada! It’s the perfect opportunity to check out sport in your local community - and get moving!

September 29 is Sports Day in Canada! It’s an opportunity for Canadians from coast to coast to celebrate all levels of sport, from kids to elite athletes. Presented by CBC Sports, Radio-Canada Sports, ParticipACTION, and True Sport, it’s a day to get inspired and get moving!

Now in its third year, over 1,000 communities, organizations, and schools are celebrating sport locally. Festivals, open houses, games, competitions, fun runs, and opportunities to try out sports are some of the fun activities planned. Canada’s Paralympic and Olympic athletes will be making special appearances at some events.

Watching events such as the Olympics may inspire us to be more active temporarily, but adult participation in sport has dropped over the past 20 years from 45 percent to 28 percent. And for youth aged 15 to 18, participation has dropped from 77 percent to 59 percent.

With over half of Canadians considered to be “inactive,” Sports Day in Canada is the perfect opportunity to get us moving again!

Register your event or find an event to attend in your community at the Sports Day website. And watch CBC’s special Sports Day coverage.
