    Spiced Pear and Pomegranate Sangria

    Ginger adds a spicy kick to this delicious and refreshing holiday beverage. Perfect to enjoy with family and friends, this colourful and slightly sweet drink can also be swapped for a fruit-forward red wine. Any way you choose, you’ll enjoy a wine-soaked sweet-fruit medley at the bottom of every glass!

    Sweetness factor

    Fancy a sweeter sangria? Try adding 1 to 2 tsp (5 to 10 mL) of honey to blender when blending pear, gingerroot, and pomegranate juice.

    Spiced Pear and Pomegranate Sangria

      Ingredients

      • 2 Bartlett pears, diced, 1/3 cup (80 mL) reserved
      • 1/2 cup (125 mL) pomegranate arils
      • 1 Pink Lady or Braeburn apple, diced
      • 1 inch (2.5 cm) gingerroot, thinly sliced, divided
      • 1/2 cup (125 mL) pomegranate juice
      • 3 cups (750 mL) chilled white wine or dealcoholized white wine
      • 1 cup (250 mL) ginger beer

      Directions

      Chill a 6-cup (1.5 L) glass pitcher. Once chilled, add pear, pomegranate arils, apple, and half gingerroot. Set aside.

      To high-speed blender, add reserved 1/3 cup (80 mL) pear, half gingerroot, and pomegranate juice. Blend until smooth and pour into glass pitcher. Add chilled wine and ginger beer and stir.
