#2013alive: Liven Up your Living Space

Share

It’s week 3 of October’s 12 Months of Wellness journey. This week, we’re having fun by playing interior decorator.

Welcome to October’s 12 Months of Wellness challenge. If you’re just tuning in, October’s theme is all about having fun, and to do this, our goal last week was to throw a party—even for no reason at all! This week, we channel our inner interior decorators and have fun by livening up our living spaces.

First of all, take a deep breath: this does not mean a renovation (unless you’re really feeling inspired!). Instead, you’d likely be surprised at how a few small changes make a big difference. It can seem simplistic, but walking into your home and loving how it looks, feels, and even smells, can be a very peaceful, calming experience.

Stumped for ideas? Try one of these.

  • Focus on a specific area and create a zone just for “me time.” This can be a reading nook, complete with a comfy chair, soft blanket, and side table for your cup of tea, or a spa-inspired bath retreat, with natural soy or beeswax candles and new fluffy organic cotton towels.
  • Do a seasonal swap. The weather is getting cooler, so why not reflect that in your décor by choosing some warm accent colours for rugs, throw pillows, and blankets. When the weather gets warmer again, opt for lighter fabrics in cool, refreshing tones.
  • Get artsy. Artwork need not be fancy, expensive, or impressive to others—the most important thing is that you love to look at it. Consider getting something sentimental framed, such as a poem your partner wrote for you, a piece of artwork your children created, or a snapshot of a fun memory. Even ticket stubs, magazine or newspaper clippings, or dried flowers can make meaningful and beautiful artwork, as long as you smile when you see it.
