We polled some of our staff members about their favourite fitness activities and why they like them. Hopefully we've given you some ideas on ways to get out and get fit!

"Tennis is my favourite activity mainly because it's fun. As a soccer player it's great for footwork and balance as well as strength building for the legs and arms. It doesn't cost much and it's very accessible."
--Scott Wittenberg

"My favourite physical activity is cross-country skiing. I like to be outside and I love snow. Cross-country skiing can be a nice, slow-paced activity that involves stopping and chatting with people on the trails and yet is still such a great workout."
--Terri Senger

"Every spring I look forward to getting out into the sun for softball. It's very much a game of mental strength rather than physical prowess. You won't get a lot of cardiovascular exercise during the games but at least you warm up, stretch and have fun.

Softball is a wonderful way of getting fresh air, increasing circulation and most of all, socializing!

A Journal of the American Medical Association study concluded that people who come into contact with six or more types of relationships one or two times a week were better able to fight off colds than those with less diverse relationships."
--Julie Cheng

"I've recently started running after work with two of my co-workers. Fortunately for us, our workplace is near a path beside the river so it's convenient. This works well for me because of the motivation that my friends provide and because of the pleasant, natural environment we run in."
--Blair Baxter

"Without a doubt the most challenging sport of all is golf. Second to none, it entails the greatest test of mental and physical skill. This game of physical fitness, muscle memory, mental toughness and creativity has absolutely no room for error.

There are no excuses in golf, nobody to blame but yourself. No matter how much you play you'll never have the same shot twice. Every day is a new and exciting challenge as you battle with mother nature one-on-one. You can hit 50 terrible shots in a row but when you get that one just right, the joy and satisfaction can't be beat."
--Scott Yavis

"Hiking is wonderful! It clears your mind as you walk through the forest. It's a great way to exercise. The sweating, grunting and toiling is really worth it when you get to the view at the top!"
--Lori Fraser
